App in the Air shut down. Here's how to rebuild your flight history.

App in the Air left the app stores on 19 September 2024, and data export closed on 19 October 2024. If you logged years of flights there, you have three options. Which one fits depends on whether you saved your export file in time.

What happened

  • September 2024: App in the Air announced it was discontinuing its service.
  • 19 September 2024: the app was removed from the Apple App Store, Google Play and the Samsung Galaxy Store.
  • Until 19 October 2024: users could open the app and export their data (Profile → Settings → Other → Export Data). The export arrived by email as a .txt file.
  • After that date, data was handled under App in the Air's privacy policy. There's no way to export it from App in the Air now.

Option 1: You have your .txt export

Some apps can read the App in the Air file directly:

  • Flighty (iPhone, iPad, Mac) lists App in the Air in its import assistant. Flights from the past year import free; older flights need Flighty Pro.
  • TripIt Pro ($49 a year) imports it if you email the .txt file to TripIt support. TripIt says this is for TripIt Pro users only.

Waymarka can't read the App in the Air .txt file directly. To use Waymarka, either:

  • Go through Flighty: import the .txt into Flighty, export your flights from Flighty (Settings → Account Data → Export Your Flights), then import that file into Waymarka under Add flights → Import Flighty. Older flights need Flighty Pro for the first step.
  • Rebuild with our template (Option 2), copying the dates and airports out of the file.

Option 2: Rebuild your history with the Waymarka template

This works whether or not you have the export. It's also how to recover flights from old emails, a spreadsheet or a paper logbook.

  • 1. In Waymarka, open Add flights → Use Waymarka template and download the blank template.
  • 2. Open it in Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers. Only three columns are required: date, from and to (airport codes like LHR or JFK). Flight number, airline, times, seat, cabin, booking reference and notes are optional.
  • 3. Fill in what you remember. If you have the App in the Air .txt, open it in a text editor and copy across the dates and airports.
  • 4. Save as CSV and upload it under Upload completed template.
  • 5. Check the list. Airports are matched for you and possible duplicates are flagged. Then save.

Option 3: Add flights as you find them

  • Scan an old boarding pass with your camera (barcode), or upload a photo or PDF and let AI read it.
  • Add a flight manually: date, from and to are enough.
  • Already moved to Flighty or myFlightradar24? Export your flights there and import the file into Waymarka.

The free plan covers your first 10 flights, no card needed: imports, barcode scans and manual entry all count toward it. AI photo/PDF reading and anything past 10 flights need Pro, a paid upgrade.

Honest take

If you have the .txt and an iPhone, Flighty is the quickest way to get the file read. If you're on Android, or you want your flights and the places you've visited on one map, Waymarka is built for that. Use the Flighty route or the template to get your history in.

Frequently asked questions

Is App in the Air coming back?

There's no sign of it. The service was discontinued in September 2024 and data export closed on 19 October 2024.

Can I still export my App in the Air data?

No. The export window closed on 19 October 2024. If you didn't export by then, rebuild from boarding passes, airline emails or memory using the Waymarka template.

Can Waymarka import my App in the Air file?

Not directly. You can import it into Flighty and then move your Flighty export into Waymarka, or copy the flights into the Waymarka template.

What's the minimum I need to log a past flight?

A date and the two airports. Everything else is optional.

Does Waymarka work on Android?

Yes. Waymarka runs in any modern browser, including Chrome on Android. iOS and Android apps are coming soon.

How much does Waymarka cost?

Waymarka is free for your first 10 flights and 10 pins, no card needed. Pro is a paid upgrade: $2.99 a month, $19.99 a year, or $49.99 once for Lifetime, all in USD plus tax. Monthly and Annual offer an optional 30-day free Pro trial, which asks for a card on day 1 (cancel before day 30 and you pay nothing).
